Shotton Group achieves welding certification AS/NZS ISO 3834-2 standard as it continues a commitment to quality systems
The Shotton Group has confirmed its prowess as an industry leader in the fabrication of sheet metal production capabilities with the achievement of its latest industry certification.
The Shotton Group has always adopted the philosophy that quality is paramount within our systems to manufacture exceptional products that conform to our clients’ requirements. We are proud to announce that as of October 2020, Welding Australia certified our welding team to AS/NZS ISO 3834 – Part 2 Certification as we adopt this production control system which complements our already existing certification to Quality System ISO 9001-2015.
Provided by Welding Australia, this internationally recognised standard ensures our clients that quality is built into the welding process from the design phase, throughout production, and incorporated within each stage by welding personnel with the highest of technical knowledge and expertise.
The certificate encompasses the areas of competency provided within the production capabilities of The Shotton Group in carbon, stainless, and aluminium machined and manufactured products. The industries in which we operate include assemblies for trains, trams and buses that utilise these products and will benefit from the replicable process that ensures a high level of consistency. Additionally, they are used within our lift manufacturing for small residential and industrial properties, and throughout our Shotton Parmed products of mortuary and medical products.
We endeavour to create fusion welded steel products that are free from defects that will provide problem-free operation while in service by utilising a management process. This process needs to be replicated across the entire process, unifying each of the design phase, material selection, and inspection at any point within production. A vital requirement of the ISO 3834 system is an inspection at appropriate steps of the fabrication process to ensure compliance before, during, and after welding.
Integral to the adoption of this enhanced quality system, The Shotton Group has invested in additional specialist roles to fulfil a focus on greater product integrity. We are pleased to introduce Mr Gokhan Sacli, who recently commenced as our International Welding Engineer (IIW-IWE). Gokhan brings extensive experience to the team, having been a Production and Quality Engineer at various international companies. His skills complement the over 30 years of experience in welding production inherent within the fabrication team across military, defence, transport, medical and general fabrication.
One of the critical factors in the quality process is the implementation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs). Gokhan will develop these plans and provide ongoing training to the fabrication team in implementing this process to ensure in-house inspection becomes an integral process.
The Shotton Group, Managing Director Lloyd Shotton reflecting on this recent accomplishment of the business commented that the certificate, “was in recognition of the quality which has been at the forefront of our engineering and sheet metal capabilities and would continue to affirm our commitment to manufacturing in Australia.
“We continue to operate at the forefront of manufacturing, utilising the latest equipment and adopting the pinnacle of industry standards to ensure the highest level of service to our customers.”
